I've wanted to create images such as these for a long time now :) . It's called 'Gum bichromate' effect, a 19th century photographic printing process based on the light sensitivity of dichromates. I did these digitally of course.... using lots and lots of layers.. hehe.. :). I just love that 'old and rustic' look...
Mmmm! Looks positively ancient. Great! These are actually your shots Josh?
Thanks Carlos :) Nope, that's an old photo taken sometime during the 50's. It's still in a pretty good condition actually. The thing is I don't have many images that can be suitably used for this sort of editings :).
very nice output and interesting at the same time! i wish know how to do this kind of effect!
Hey friend :). How you're doin'? Thanks :). I worked on them for hours learning from a video tutorial [from a free CD insert in the Digital Camera Magazine]. Great fun it was !! :D
wow.. have you ever heard the word "limit"? please, stop being artistic! hahaha you keep on setting the standards higher bro., your imagination is endless!

Hehe.. sure I do :). But.. but.. I can't help it... that need to express my so-called artistic inclinations is something I simply just can't ignore.. haha.. lol :D. I day dream a lot I guess.. hehe... :) Thanks Edwin... so nice of you to leave me your wonderful comments...
excellent stuff bro! it'd take me ages to try and figure out how to get that effect!
Thanks Shankar :) Quite right. It'd be the same for me too. If I did not have the tutorial CD I would not have attempted. In fact, I would not even know where to begin :)
Thanks tiongghee :) The hardest part for me was to find suitable photos for such effects. It was hard. I simply refuse to use any images that has any modern elements. It just wont't jive. So I was quite relieved to have found this photo :). It's not the prefect sample to use, but this is one of the only few that I have... :)
Haha.. you're joking right? you've gotta be kidding me.. hahaha.. LOL :D... Oh man.. of course that is so NOT my school photo !! That's like shot in the 50's !! :) I am much younger.. hehehe.. :) Thanks... :)
Excellent work Josh! Would u mind telling me how u did it? ^_^
Thanks Jean :) As mentioned above, I learned it from a CD tutorial. The CD was from the Digital Camera Magazine [UK]. It was one of those free insert CD :). To list each steps would be awfully long and tedious cause the whole process involved using many layers [Layer & Channel palettes], layer masks, blendings, filling colours, and adding textures.
i like the effects here...really old looking like in the 1920's...or earlier..even the faces suggested that!
Hehe... I like this one too. But I must admit that this was actually an old 1930's photo I found in an album. I shot the photo itself and then edited it ;-)
looks awesome. how do you came up with such a cool textures?
Hi Arief. Welcome to my site :). I hope it was worth your while. As mentioned above, I learned the editings from a CD tutorial. The CD was from the Digital Camera Magazine [UK]. It was one of those free insert CD :). The texture sample is included in the CD itself ;-). I could find my own textures but I was too lazy to go out and shoot a few.. hehe... :)
