Photo AlbumSome latest macro shotsApr 27, '08 12:45 PM
for everyone
Each time I do macro shots, I tried capturing something I've never done before. Perhaps find new insects to shoot or compose them differently or use lights in the best possible way or preferable shoot when the insects are in action. That last bit is hard but it's nice to have such challenge :). And here are my latest efforts though not all of the above attempts were succesful :)

I thought it was insane to try to capture this. And it was.. hehe... :) This is the only one I got that's worth posting. The rest was just so sad.. hehe.. :)
Photobucket

Like, are those it's babies or parasites? I did not even notice those slimy larves attached to the caterpillars belly until I reviewed the photo. It was both eeky [hehe..] and fascinating :D
Photobucket

I thought the lighting was nice.. soft and green. It's like an umbrella, shading the laybird from the intense morning light :)
Photobucket

Another shot of the same insect. I kinda like the wavy leaf.. I think it look very nice :)
Photobucket

If you look closer you can see me in those big gorgeous eyes.. hehe.. :)
Photobucket

Now I know what wasps have for breakfast. It was done with the meal in a matter of just couple of minutes. I gather the larve is quite delicious and nutricious.. hehe.. :)

Haha :D That's a good one. But of course I am.. hehe.. :)
At the risk of sounding grandiloquent, I suppose I had always try my best to up my so-call standards each time I take photographs. I had to I guess, else I'd get bored. Most time I just get frustrated if I ended up doing the same thing over and over again. On the flip side, it is always very exhilirating to attempt new stuff and/or doing it better. Natural progression I guess... :)

Isn't that just the most fascinating 'creature' you've ever seen !! :)

Hey Jowell :) How you doin' bro?
Haha... it does seem like he's gonna bite me eh? Hehe... :) He's fiercest little spider I've ever encountered !! Even when I got real close to it, he did not budge even a bit. Instead he faced me head on !! :D
Sure Jowell, I most definitely believe that you'd be able to take macro images like mine too. In fact I think you'd even gonna do it way better. Just practice a lot bro and you'll get there sooner than you think ;-)

I noticed this little caterpillar totaly by chance. It was hanging by it's silky thread and was pulling itself up to a leaf, all the while wiggling itself left and right. So now you can imagine how hard it was for me to get a focus on it as it was practically, as you said, in mid air.
And yeah, I was particularly excited because of the new perspective as I've never done this before :)

That was due to the noise reduction. I tend to overdo it sometimes, well, ok, most times [hehe..] cause I just hate 'noise' in my macro shots.. hehe.. :)

Scary indeed, but that's just my initial reaction. After that I was so fascinated by it. Really :)

I think it was a larve. After the wasp torn an opening, it then squeezed the inside [a premature caterpillar I think as it was moving and wiggling about] and started to chow down on it. And I saw all this through my camera via the macro lens. It was most fascinating. I wish I have the equipment to record the whole process.

Yes, looking at me upsidedown.. hehe.. :)
Actually, at first I was shooting it sideways. Then it noticed me and faced me directly. Almost like he was posing for me. It did not scurry off though which is just simply neat.. hehe.. :)

I have no idea what those are.

Can anyone tell me? I'd love to know...

I was just inches away from it actually. I had too for a macro shot.. hehe.. :). No, I was not in any danger. It is one of the park's staff pet. The staff actually have a license for that. He shared with me that he had the snake since it was a baby. It is now 12 years old. That's pretty old for a snake I think. It was fed with 2 to 4 chickens a week and mice too sometimes.

The wasp was so engrossed that it did not even mind me gettin' so close to capture this.. hehe.. :)
It was one of the most fascinating 'macro experience' I've ever had.... seeing the wasp so expertly cutting through the membrane/encasing to poking the inside and squeezing out the premature larve and finally having a feast.. wow... it was like watching one of those documentary on TV.. hehe.. :)
